A road trip with your hero—what could go wrong?

Charlie is beyond thrilled when he's assigned to take his literary hero on a ten day trip through the mountains of West Virginia to help the author research his next book. A paid vacation with his celebrity crush seems too good to be true—and he quickly finds it is.

Ezra McKinnon has a reputation for being a brilliant writer—and a bit of a diva. After the runaway success of his first novel, Ezra suddenly finds himself spending his time partying instead of writing. Ezra feels the pressure to replicate the success of his first book, and the last thing he needs is a traveling companion who can't seem to shut up—and who Ezra can't keep his hands off.

Between car breakdowns and hotel room mix-ups, the disastrous trip forces the two men to work together. Around Charlie, Ezra finally feels comfortable letting go of his celebrity persona, and Charlie thinks he may have found a guy who treats him well. But as soon as they're back home, things start to fall apart.

Will their fledgling relationship survive the real world, or was this just a brief road trip fling?

Almost Heaven is an enemies-to-lovers m/m contemporary romance with plenty of (slightly kinky) heat, and a happy ending.

Oh my gosh. So I get this email...well, newsletter with some book recommendations and this one was on there so I thought hey, my TBR scares me right now...I can't decide what to read, why not this one! I thought I had not heard of this author before, so she was a new to me one! However, at the end of this book, I see an excerpt for a book that sounded familiar...why? Oh yeah, it's sitting on my TBR. I MAY have a one click problem but whatever, I can quit anytime right?!?!??!

SO anyway....I just LOVED this book. This one is about Charlie and Ezra. Charlie, who works at a publishing house, gets the best news of his life when he learns he gets to go on an all paid business trip with his favorite author, Ezra.

But Ezra is Mr. Moody pants deluxe. All prickly, bite your head off, grrrr! But Charlie gives it back just as good as Ezra gives it, even though sometimes it hurts him a little more than he lets on. But Ezra can't help falling for this kid, and boy howdy, when these two get together....DAMN! I loved the chemistry between these two, the dynamic of their sexual relationship was off the charts hot! So these two live the perfect little life for these 10 days they are road tripping, then it's back to the real world where ezra is MIA buried in a writing cave and Charlie..well, Charlie's life took a turn he didn't see coming and thought his world had come crashing down, and what he thought he felt, he didn't even trust anymore. When Ezra returns to the land of the living, he learns what happened, and tries his hardest to make it right.

I am so glad this book was recommended and so glad I decided to forgo all other TBR books on my kindle right now to read this one! It was definitely worth it!!!

Almost Heaven edition by Ruthie Luhnow Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Such a great read! The characters are engaging and the story keeps your attention and waiting for what's next. This has everything, romance, miscommunication and conflict, and of course a happy ending!! Love it!
I'm all in favor of a good romance that starts with enmity and ends in feelings of love, and this book certainly delivered.
I like this hate em to love em story a lot. I would definitely read more by Ruthie. Uniquely done. Good job
Loved this booked. LOVED. So much better than the drivel I've read lately (A Cup of Joe, I'm looking at you). Finally, a twink with some gumption! And smoking hot sexytimes. And delicious angry sex. So many good things to like. I enjoyed the writing style, and I liked that it wasn't too schmoopy (until the end). I really liked that it wasn't instalove (boring) and the two MCs weren't constantly vomiting rainbows and kittens all over each other (I don't know about you, but the gay men I know aren't nearly as lovey dovey and saccharinely romantic as many books (mostly written by women) make them out to be). These two MCs weren't afraid to get angry with each other. The obligatory miscommunication/lack of talking ACTUALLY MADE SENSE AND WORKED WITH THE STORY. Imagine that.
This was almost a DNF for me. The first third was funny and strong, though I did think Charlie was slightly out of order. We were told frequently that he had no filter, as if that explains his complete unprofessionalism when things don't go his way when the tour he designed isn't to his client's satisfaction. The sex was hot but there was too much of it, three or four intense sex scenes in a row, over a 2 day period. And the ending, the ending was just ludicrous and unbelievable, in my opinion.

The weird thing is, is that it well written, the words flow smoothly but the characterisation is flawed and the plot is weak. I never really got over Charlie, though I definitely warmed to Ezra. But the last third lost it for me.
Charlie is, without a doubt, pure geek but that just made him great at his job as an assistant at a publishing company. He is organized to a fault, the absolute most dedicated employee one could find and totally honest which is exactly why he was fired from the job he loved.

It all started when he was assigned to travel on assignment with his absolute idol, award-winning writer, Ezra. Ezra with the bad boy reputation. Charlie doesn't know that there are really two Ezra's, the one with attitude who must be social to sell himself and his work and the quiet Ezra who just wants to breathe and not be bound by schedules and events. That doesn't work so well when your publishing company sends you on tour with a Type A, dedicated list maker because the thoughts in his head are moving way to fast to keep track of. Along the way, Ezra learns much more than expected and comes to better understand Charlie's insecurities as well. Ezra is so set in his independent, lonely ways that the thought of sharing ideas never crossed his mind. As Ezra becomes more open and aware, Charlie learns to become more spontaneous. I will offer no spoiler except to say that, as in any good romance novel, the main characters come to know each other as well as themselves and enjoy the coming together until conflict tears them apart. Like any really good romance, the happy ending is pure pleasure.
This book is a formula. It's as standard as they come. At least the characters aren't pouring coffee or baking cupcakes, but otherwise it's so routine that about a quarter of the way in I was tempted to trash it.

But wait! Not so fast. Once this thing picks up some steam it's a great little read. The characters finally come to life. Charlie takes a stand and Ezra learns to be a real human being and...it's just one sweet read. Like cuddling up with a soft quilt on a cold night. Don't miss it. I would love it if we got a sequel.
